Newborn Baby Maria Abandoned by Road Side in Plastic Bag Inundated With Offers From Foster Parents

Baby Maria
newborn baby found abandoned in a plastic bag by the side of a road in Ireland earlier this month has had dozens of offers from would-be foster parents.
Maria was also wrapped in a blanket and was fed and nourished but was suffering from hypothermia having been left out in heavy rainfall for up to 36 hours.
She is now thriving with a foster family, reports the Irish Mirror, as police attempt to track down her mother.
A spokeswoman for Child and Family Agency, Tusla, yesterday confirmed the authorities have received many people’s best wishes and enquires about fostering abandoned Maria.

She said: “Tusla has received dozens of well wishes and generous offers of support for baby Maria from the public.
“While we appreciate the genuine concern felt by the public in this case, in the interests of the children and families with whom we work, Tusla does not comment on individual cases.
“In all cases, Tusla identifies an appropriate placement to suit the individual needs of each child in care.”
Maria, who spent the first few weeks of her life with hospital staff, could remain in foster care until she is 18 because only a biological parent can sign the adoption papers.
Police are still concerned for the welfare of the baby’s mother and have told her she “has nothing to fear” if she comes forward.
Supt Brendan Connolly said the case will be treated with the utmost discretion.
He added: “We are concerned for the welfare of the mother of this child and are appealing for her to seek immediate medical treatment and to contact us.
“This mother has nothing to fear, we are here to help and the matter will be dealt with compassionately and sensitively.”
They are still trawling through CCTV and examining DNA in an effort to identify the mother.
